1 cent.... [11 Jul 2006|10:31pm]

calipunkmonkey
Ok so I would like to recommend that you get your fellow associates together and start buying the limits on all the 1 cent stuff...see how much you can all get by the end of the week and them have a bonfire with it all. Make some smore's, get the whole store involved.

And if the fire gets to crazy and you got one of them new eye washing dealies you can probally use it to put the fire out.

Today we had some lady ask if she bought 250 of them if we would make her a deal...if they weren't making us stand by the limit it would be what like $2.50?

but seriously, hope you kids have a decent back to school season.

so, two days after putting my two weeks notice into staples, i was fired. i was ready to just quit and not go in again, but out of respect to my fellow employees and managers i said i would stick it out for two more weeks to get someone trained as price auditor.

here's how it went. i had the flu for most of last week so i had gotten behind on a few things, i worked saturday evening to get the adset done and such and OFFERED to go in sunday (my DAY OFF) for a few hours to catch up. well, i work two jobs, my second job being target overnight, i ended up working a 10 hour shift at target saturday night/sunday morning and was dead tired so i called sunday to let them know i couldnt go in, but would go in monday to do my catch up. i tried to let my manager know the situation, but he said that call "would be my notice" and to not "worry about going into work again" i dont think he knew i had just put my two weeks in because i had handed it to the sales manager on friday and spoke to my general manager on saturday about my plans and everything was worked out.

i guess two other employees had called in that day, to which i had no idea, but i doubt he fired either of them, and again it was MY DAY OFF. i was going in as a favor to them. i feel like i've been wronged. i think the general manager might try to get me to stick the two weeks out, but at this point i am really upset and don't feel like i should have to give them a second chance. what do you all think about this situation?? after being there for two and a half years i thought i would have had a little more respect than that.

Day after Thanksgiving! [27 Nov 2005|12:33am]

[ mood | exhausted ]

So, how was everyone's day after Thanksgiving? Any good stories? Any fights?

One of the registers froze up twice. It was the guy's first Green Friday, too! There were people coming up from the back of the line asking what was going on. They were irate! People are cattle...

I had this one lady come up to me right at the back end of the rush with a cart full of packing boxes and filing supplies. She waited a full 20 minutes in line to get stuff that wasn't even part of the early bird special. One of the items she got, for some reason, did not ring up. I scanned it and the register beeped and said that the item was not on file or something. I looked all over the item to see if there was another bar code, and found nothing. I calmly explained to the lady, "This item is not ringing up for some reason." She gave me this angry look and said, "Well, it better ring up." At this point, I was exhausted after enduring that huge rush, so I wasn't in the mood to deal with this bitchy lady. Luckily, my GM was right there and he fixed the problem. I hate people like that. Come in to a store, the day after Thanksgiving, and expect the service to be perfect.

Anyway, if you have any horror stories about the day after Thanksgiving, comment and give them here! I figured this would already be here!

Hello all. Tim from Store #0176, Portsmouth, NH reporting in. I'm surprised I hadn't found this community earlier, but here I am! Anyway, I've been with Staples since... well about Early July this year! Been havin' fun and doing good. I'm currently an Office Supplies Lackey, and love it (most of the time). And that's about it. :P

so it's thursday... i come to find that this entire week we get our discount. no one in my store knew. my gm is currently away in portland for a manager meeting so here i am complaining to you guys instead of him. there was no sign posted on the bulletin boards, no memo attatched to our paychecks... no info. that kinda bugs me, because i feel like i always miss the days whether i forget or just dont know about them.
i bought some cork tiles to put up in my apartment along with nice reume paper the other day.. about $25.. i'm going to take in my receipt tomorrow, that's for sure.

Hi I'm Holly from store 1173 in Tampa, Florida. I've been at staples for a year now and it's seriously the first job I've liked ever. I guess it's the people I work with that make it worth working there. How's everyone doing with their 39 cent color copy PA announcement? My boss told me to record me saying the whole entire thing and they just play it every hour from his MP3 player. The district manager liked it so much that they sent it to every staples in our district! It's weird haha, but kind of cool to hear my voice at a whole bunch of different staples stores. I also do the voice message when you call the store too. It's pretty cool.

[ mood | good ]

so i am originally from store 718 (woodland, ca) and transfered to 376 (eureka, ca) about a month or so ago.... it's been a good transition. i miss my old co-workers and stuff but it feels great to be up here. they gave me a new position so it's been a lot better than i had imagined. i went from customer service desk to inventory associate. i take care of inventory (duh) doing zero-low balance walk every weekday. i dont work weekends and i dont have to cashier anymore, so i'm very happy about all that.

i'm sure you all have started selling the logo. the easy button that says "that was easy" when you press it... you know what i'm talking about. are those even selling? they're a hit and miss here. the main reason people buy them here is when i tell them the first million we sell goes to the boys and girls club. everytime i walk to the front though i cant help but press it. i'm one of those people. the cashiers probably dont appreciate it very much but it's just one of those impulsive things.

Got to love shoplifters..... [28 Aug 2005|07:59pm]

sandmanofcs
Today was an eventful day for me, my first time preventing a shoplifter from stealing from MY store.

It opened up last night when they nailed one of our new stores (let's call it C) for a good portion of ink. They tried going to one of our college town stores (let's call that H) and were stopped from stealing a digital camera/printer combo pack. My manager (Steph) got the call from the GM of that store (his wife works in our store). While her and I were getting stuff out of the back, she told me that we need to make it quick as H was almost hit but they stopped them at the door. I then turned to Steph and asked her "Let me guess, a hispanic male (now don't get me wrong, I hate stereotyping people, but sometimes it can help and harm you, this time it helped)?" She just had that look on her face like "How in the hell did you know?"

So I get back out on the floor. One of our cashiers needed more teacher bags (we were giving these to the teachers yesterday and we were today also).

Now the fun begins

I see a hispanic male make his way to the big pair of double doors leading to the back. I was over at the center of the store, so I make a dash to the doors and ask him if he needs any help. *strike one*

I tell him the bathroom is over on the other side of the store, so he makes a little fuss but makes his way over there. Now I go to one of the phones and I try to call Steph to get the exact description of the guy that almost his H. I see him come over and he tries to discract me *strike two!* . Steph makes her way over to my position and I walk towards her and he quickly leaves me alone. He says that he was just wondering where the bathroom was and I ran over to him. She just tells him where they are and he leaves.

I then ask her "Is that the guy?" , and she answers "Yes". He stays around digital cameras so I just stand there calling one of the cashiers on the phone because he paged for my department to his register. He starts walking around the center of the store and Steph asks him "Are you going to the bathroom or not, because you are making our customers really uncomfortable."

So I start letting the other floor associates know that he's in the store and to keep an eye on him (screw what we are told, my dad has always told me to watch the ones you know are shoplifters). I am over in the back of the store with another associate "cleaning up" and he comes over to me and has an active agressive response *STRIKEEEE THREE! YOU'RE OUT!!*. I just stand there looking right through him. He then walks off angry that he couldn't get anything.

He leaves the store and Steph calls H back and makes sure on the description, it's a match. H tells her that there were two of them so she's like "There's another one in the store!" H then gives her the license plate of the car and she looks out the window and sees him getting into the car with a female driver (one match), and two other people in the car (two and three matches). She then calls EL (only closest store they could get to) and warns them about them on what's coming their way.

She then tells me that I did a good job, just not to make it so noticeable that you are watching them.

One cashier (the person I was with) got angry at first, but then apologized once she realized that it was the shoplifter.

So that was my day of fun.

Any other shoplifting tales you would like to share?

One of our new hires got fed up at work today, walked up to the managers and gave them a post-it that said something along the lines of "I quit. I'll be back in two weeks to pick up my paycheck."  Then he said "That was easy," and walked out the door.

I thought that was great.  Sucks that we're out another Furniture associate, but that's the most creative departure we've ever had at our store.

so about a week and a half ago a lady comes in with written up menus and says "i need these typed on legel cream by tomorrow night. 70 sets" so my coworker gets to it. fucks everything up. so we redo them. wrong again. somehow we managed to fuck up this poor womans menus for a week. we made her push back the opening of her restuarant.

so finally on friday night we thought we were finished. but some asshole speeled coffee wrong and it was huge... so i had to redo that and they started flipping out about how the take out menus and eat in menus were all wrong.

this is when mojo (me.) took matters into her own hands.

i spent almost 4 hours retyping so much shit yesterday and then... our color copier connected to the computer broke. so i took my copy center skills else where. drove 20 minutes to the next staples so i can finsih this lady's menus.

did mojo get a tip for her heroic efforts? no. they better give me some fuckin food. i read that menu so many times i practically have every italian dish known to man memorized
